BRH – horizontal surface grinding machine for precision flat grinding

The BRH surface grinding machine is a horizontal surface grinder designed for classical surface grinding, and optionally profile grinding, using the periphery or side of the grinding wheel. Machines of the BRH series are intended for precise machining of flat surfaces in single‑piece, small‑batch and repetitive production, combining robust construction with stable movements and straightforward operation.

The working table is available in sizes from 250 × 600 mm up to 400 × 1000 mm, with the main motor power ranging from 2.2 kW to 7 kW, depending on the machine size and configuration. BRH surface grinders allow both manual grinding and automatic grinding cycles, supporting flat grinding as well as plunge grinding methods.

Workpieces are typically clamped on a magnetic chuck, while clamping in special fixtures mounted in T‑slots of the working table is also possible. In special configurations, the machine allows grinding of inclined surfaces, further extending its technological versatility.

Control system and ergonomics of the BRH surface grinder

The control panel is mounted on a swivelling arm, providing easy access to all control elements and ensuring comfortable and intuitive operation. For precise positioning and manual grinding operations, the machine is equipped with a manual handwheel, which significantly improves control and operator comfort.

On request, the BRH surface grinder can be equipped with touch probes, grinding wheel touch‑off monitoring, or additional accessories designed to increase productivity, safety and process reliability.

BRH 20AQ surface grinder – table drives and grinding cycles

The BRH 20AQ model features both manual and hydraulic table drives, with continuously adjustable table speed. The cross feed can be operated manually or automatically, either with continuously adjustable feed rate or intermittent feed at table reversal points.

The machine is equipped with cross and vertical rapid traverse, and supports both manual and automatic vertical feed. Automatic vertical infeed can be configured:

  • at every table reversal, or
  • at every cross‑feed reversal.

The total grinding allowance can be divided into rough grinding and fine grinding stages, where:

  • rough grinding step sizes range from 0.012 to 0.03 mm,
  • fine grinding steps range from 0.002 to 0.01 mm.

Once the final dimension is reached, the automatic infeed is switched off.

Measuring systems, spindle design and hydraulics

The BRH surface grinding machine is equipped with ESSA vertical and cross measuring systems, supplied as standard equipment. This allows the machine to run in a closed grinding cycle without lift‑off in the vertical direction, improving accuracy and surface quality.

Modernized versions of the machine are fitted with a rolling‑bearing spindle design, contributing to long‑term stability and reduced maintenance requirements. The machine is controlled by an OMRON control system with a touchscreen interface, displaying the positions of the vertical and cross axes and allowing easy setting of selected grinding parameters.

The hydraulic system features a new design with modern components. Table movement is controlled by a proportional valve, replacing older mechanical‑hydraulic elements and providing smoother motion, higher accuracy and improved control of the grinding process.
