BHM CNC – universal CNC cylindrical grinder for medium‑weight workpieces

The BHM CNC cylindrical grinder is a fully CNC‑controlled universal grinding machine designed for precise grinding of external cylindrical and taper surfaces of medium‑weight rotational workpieces. The machine is equipped with three controlled CNC axes:
the X axis (grinding wheel head infeed),
the Z axis (longitudinal table movement),
and the C axis (grinding wheel speed control).

The BHM CNC grinder is primarily intended for longitudinal grinding and plunge grinding, while offering full capability for profile grinding and grinding of transition areas between different diameters. The machine also enables face grinding, and when equipped with an optional internal grinding unit, it allows internal cylindrical and taper grinding.

Workpieces may be clamped between centres, mounted in a chuck for overhung grinding, or fixed on a magnetic table. Both the drive headstock and the grinding wheel head are swivelling, enabling accurate taper grinding and machining of combined surface geometries. This makes the BHM CNC a versatile solution for a wide range of grinding tasks in job‑shop and small‑batch production.


Grinding capabilities and CNC design of the BHM grinder

The BHM CNC grinding machine supports:

  • longitudinal grinding with a moving table,
  • plunge grinding with a stationary or oscillating table,
  • external cylindrical and taper grinding between centres or overhung,
  • profile grinding and grinding of transitions,
  • face grinding using the side or periphery of the grinding wheel,
  • optional internal grinding.

Both the grinding wheel head and the table are driven by high‑precision ball screws and servomotors, ensuring smooth motion, accurate positioning and excellent repeatability of the grinding process.

The machine is designed for workpieces weighing up to 1000 kg per part, positioning it as a robust CNC cylindrical grinder for medium‑heavy components.


CNC control system and standard equipment

The standard version of the BHM CNC cylindrical grinder is equipped with the Siemens SINUMERIK 840D sl control system, providing reliable CNC performance, precise control and a user‑friendly operating environment. The grinding spindle is mounted in rolling bearings, enabling continuous operation with peripheral wheel speeds of 10–50 m/s and smooth speed regulation.

Standard machine equipment includes:

  • complete machine enclosure with FilterMist extraction,
  • programmable grinding process monitoring,
  • coolant system with belt and magnetic filtration (300 l capacity),
  • automatic grinding wheel balancing,
  • LED lighting of the working area,
  • TriboTec centralized lubrication system,
  • remote diagnostics capability,
  • handwheel control for fine manual movements,
  • EC‑compliant machine design with full technical documentation.

Thanks to its combination of accuracy, versatility and ease of operation, the BHM CNC cylindrical grinder is suitable for flexible job‑shop grinding as well as cost‑effective repetitive production.
