SPH 50 service and maintenance

SPH 50 / D / DS

SPH 50 service – CNC lathe support

SPH 50 service overview

SPH 50 service focuses on long‑term operation, maintenance and spare parts support for this special CNC lathe with twin independently controlled tool turrets manufactured by KOVOSVIT MAS. Although production of the SPH 50 series has been discontinued, many machines remain in active use in industrial turning applications.

Therefore, reliable aftermarket service is essential. With proper maintenance and timely repairs, operators can continue using the SPH 50 efficiently and with stable machining accuracy.

Machine concept and twin‑turret design

The SPH 50 CNC lathe is equipped with two independently controlled tool turrets, allowing simultaneous machining with two tools. As a result, the machine significantly increases productivity by enabling parallel cutting operations on a single workpiece.

Both tool turrets are mounted on cross slides located on the upper bed guideways. They are arranged in a mirror configuration, with tool faces oriented toward each other. This layout ensures balanced cutting forces and stable machining conditions.

Tool turrets and machine versions

The SPH 50 series was available in several variants:

  • SPH 50 – 8‑station electrically indexed tool turrets
  • SPH 50D – 12‑station tool turrets with support for driven tools
  • SPH 50DS – 12‑station tool turrets with driven tools and extended capability

Thanks to the driven‑tool option, SPH 50D and SPH 50DS machines allow additional milling and drilling operations directly on the lathe, reducing the need for secondary machines.

Axis layout and machining range

The left tool turret is designed to travel into the area above the headstock, while the right turret moves above the tailstock. The Z‑axis travel ranges of both turrets partially overlap, which allows flexible distribution of machining operations.

Minimum distance between turret flanges:

  • SPH 50 – 400 mm
  • SPH 50D / SPH 50DS – 320 mm

This design ensures safe and coordinated movement of both turrets even during simultaneous machining.

Typical applications of SPH 50

Thanks to its twin‑turret concept, the SPH 50 is commonly used for:

  • shaft‑type components
  • rotational parts machined between centers
  • high‑productivity turning operations
  • piece and small‑to‑medium batch production
  • applications requiring reduced cycle times

Because of its productivity and stability, many manufacturers still rely on the SPH 50 as a dedicated production lathe.

SPH 50 service for discontinued machines

KOVOSVIT MAS manufactured the SPH 50 series approximately between 2006 and 2016, including variants SPH 50, SPH 50D and SPH 50DS. Consequently, a significant number of machines remain in operation today.

Despite discontinued production, demand for SPH 50 service and spare parts remains high.

MASTURN service and maintenance

MASTURN

MASTURN service – CNC lathe support

MASTURN service overview

MASTURN service focuses on long‑term operation, maintenance and spare parts support for the MASTURN CNC lathe series manufactured by KOVOSVIT MAS, including models MASTURN 550 and MASTURN 820. Although production of these machines has been discontinued, many units remain in active use in industrial turning applications.

Therefore, reliable aftermarket service is essential. With proper maintenance and timely repairs, operators can continue using MASTURN lathes efficiently while maintaining stable machining accuracy and safety.

CNC lathe concept and operation

The MASTURN CNC lathes combine CNC‑controlled machining with the familiar operating principles of conventional lathes. As a result, operators can work:

  • in automatic CNC cycles
  • in semi‑manual mode
  • or with manual control supported by CNC functions

This hybrid concept makes MASTURN machines well suited for piece production, repair work and small‑batch manufacturing, especially where flexibility is important.

Machine design and rigidity

MASTURN lathes feature a robust cast‑iron bed and headstock, providing:

  • high structural rigidity
  • effective vibration damping
  • stable cutting conditions

Thanks to the rigid machine base, MASTURN lathes reliably perform both roughing and finishing turning operations. Moreover, the machine design supports long‑term geometric stability even in demanding production environments.

Control system and programming

The MASTURN series uses CNC control systems that allow:

  • graphical machining simulation
  • contour programming
  • DIN / ISO programming
  • simple entry of technological and geometric parameters

Operators can therefore prepare programs directly at the machine. In addition, optional software allows program creation and transfer from a PC, improving workflow efficiency.

Typical MASTURN applications

Thanks to their flexibility and ease of operation, MASTURN CNC lathes are commonly used for:

  • shaft‑type components
  • rotational parts
  • repair and maintenance machining
  • piece and small‑batch production
  • training and workshop environments

Many users value the MASTURN series as a reliable solution bridging modern CNC turning and traditional manual machining.

MASTURN service for discontinued machines

KOVOSVIT MAS manufactured MASTURN 550 and MASTURN 820 approximately between 2007 and 2023. Consequently, a large number of machines remain in production use today.

Despite discontinued production, demand for MASTURN service and spare parts remains strong.
