SN 500 Classic service is provided for this robust universal center lathe originally manufactured by TOS / TRENS Trenčín. The SN 500 Classic belongs among proven machines designed for single‑piece and small‑batch production and has earned a strong position not only in standard manufacturing workshops, but also in maintenance and repair facilities thanks to its massive construction, high accuracy and operational reliability.

Although production of the SN 500 Classic lathe has been discontinued, the machine is still widely used today. Its simple yet extremely robust mechanical design ensures high practical value and long service life when supported by professional servicing.

Characteristics of the SN 500 Classic Lathe

The SN 500 Classic is a mechanical universal center lathe designed for machining medium‑sized workpieces. It enables:

  • machining of external and internal cylindrical surfaces,
  • machining of conical and spherical surfaces,
  • cutting of all common types of internal and external threads.

The lathe was also produced in a special version with an enlarged spindle bore of up to 105 mm, significantly expanding its technological applicability, especially for shaft‑type components.

Construction, Stability and Performance

The foundation of the SN 500 Classic lathe is a massive cast‑iron bed that ensures high rigidity and a calm cutting process even during demanding machining operations. This construction allows the machine to maintain long‑term geometric accuracy and repeatability.

The machine is powered by a 7.5 kW main motor, which, combined with stable spindle bearing arrangements, enables efficient machining of a wide range of materials.
The spindle B8 (77 mm), or B11 (105 mm) in special versions, allows machining of large and heavy semi‑finished parts.

Simple Operation and Productive Use

The SN 500 Classic was designed with emphasis on:

  • simple and ergonomic operation,
  • easy maintenance directly in the workshop,
  • low operating costs.

The lathe is equipped with rapid traverse in both axes, significantly increasing operator productivity in single‑piece and small‑batch production. A straightforward threading system allows machining of all standard thread types without complex machine reconfiguration.

Configuration Flexibility and Accessories

A major advantage of the SN 500 Classic lathe is its versatility. The machine was supplied in several versions and can be equipped with a wide range of accessories, including:

  • various types of steadies and supports,

CNC system:

Quality CNC systems provide easy manipulation of the machine and many useful functions for the user. A consistent control of the machine is provided by a CNC system according to the customer’s choice (HEIDENHAIN iTNC 530, SIEMENS 840D SL or FANUC 31i B) with an English dialogue. A standard is the control of linear axes X, Y, Z, W, rotary coordinates for the positioning of the table (B axis) and the work spindle rotation (C axis). The control panel on a rotary bracket is equipped with a color 15’’ screen. Standard equipment includes a portable control console – a hand wheel (type according to the CNC system including a possibility of wireless transmission).

The main framework

The main framework of the machine (the longitudinal and cross-wise beds, slides and the column base) are made of cast iron GG30 with the addition of Cr and Cu; the functional surfaces of all the ways of the box guides is hardened (56 HRC) and ground. The width of the box ways on the X and Z axes is always 300 mm and the span of their outer edges is 1200 mm. The width of the box ways on the Y axis is 180 (in the front) and 130 (in the back) mm and the span of their outer edges is, again, 1200 mm. The headstock slide is moved in a vertical direction upon the box ways of the frame.

The headstock

The headstock is of a prism shape, the framework of the headstock is made from cast iron GGG60. The work spindle with the clamping spindle taper SK50 (the clamping is made according to the customer’s wish: ISO/BT/CAT) is nitrided and machined with an exceptionally high accuracy (0,005 mm tolerance). It is placed in high precision angular ball bearings of the spindle. The bearings of the main seating of the spindle are grease packed. The spindle bearings are thermally stabilized by an oil bath through a separate cooling aggregate. The spindle is equipped with automatic clamping of the tools utilizing disk springs with a multiplier of clamping power, the release of the tool is provided by a hydraulic cylinder.

Horizontal boring mill WRF150 CNC

Floor type horizontal boring mill WRF150 is a continuously controlled milling and boring machine with a travelling ram and a work spindle, with a longitudinally movable column base with the possibility of an optional table movable in a crosswise manner. WRF machines are very precise and thanks to their modern construction, they are very convenient for efficient machining of workpieces of up to 80 Tons on the optional rotary table, or higher on floor plates.

A consistent control of the machine is provided by a CNC system according to the customer’s choice (HEIDENHAIN iTNC 530, SIEMENS 840D SL or FANUC 31i B) with an English dialogue. A standard is the control of linear axes X, Y, Z, W, rotary axes of the work spindle (S). It is possible to additionally equip the machine, as standard accessories, with a rotary table (rotary axis B and linear axis V). The control panel on a rotary bracket is equipped with a color 15’’ screen. Standard equipment includes a portable control console – a hand wheel (type according to the CNC system, including a possibility of wireless transmission).

Basic parts of floor type horizontal boring mill WRF150: the longitudinal and alternatively cross-wise beds are made of cast iron GG30. The column base travel is up to 4 300 mm on the X axis and it is enabled through linear guides by a servomotor through a ball screw. For the travels from 4 900 mm, the column base travel on the X axis provided on the linear guides by two servomotors with pinions with the Master-Slave function to eliminate backlash on rack Gudel. The torque transfer from the servomotors to the pinions is through planetary gearboxes.

The column base and slides of the machine are constructed as thermally stabilized weldments. The column base moves on linear rolling guides. The linear guides and three ball screws on the column base enables the headstock travel on the Y axis. The inside of the column base is reinforced with stiffeners for higher rigidity. After the welding process and rough machining, the weldments are annealed in order to relieve inner stress, which contributes to the stability of the column base.
